(CHICAGO) A Chicago man is in custody after tackling a state trooper then barricading himself inside of a home in unincorporated Franklin Park.
Illinois State Police District Commander Louis Gutierrez says the 28-year-old man crashed his car into a guard rail on I-294 then became involved in an argument with his wife at around 7:30 Friday morning. Then he turned on the trooper.
“He tackled our trooper at which time he fell to the pavement,” Gutierrez said. “Our trooper was also transported to the hospital with injuries.”
He then fled – crossing lanes of traffic and ended up in a home with an elderly woman. Police were able to coax him into surrendering.
“The elderly subject in the residence was unharmed, however she was transported to the hospital for precautionary measures,” Gutierrez said.
Police say the man had been tasered twice, once on the road and later at the home before he was taken into custody.
