(CHICAGO) Chicago already is a Sanctuary City, but to play a little politics with Gov. Bruce Rauner, who wants a temporary hold on incoming refugees, the aldermen reaffirmed it with a new resolution welcoming Syrian refugees. Mayor Rahm Emanuel chimed in with this from the mayor’s rostrum.
“For those who talk about putting a pause on our values, what built this country wasn’t putting a pause on our values and freedoms and ideals,” Emanuel said. “It was doubling down and committing to those values because that is why America is still a beacon of hope.”
There was also a good deal of political grandstanding as one alderman was quoting the Statue of Liberty and another literally paid tribute to Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
