(CHICAGO) The City Council attacked Governor Bruce Rauner’s no-Syrian refugee stance with a resolution reaffirming Chicago’s status as a Sanctuary City, but some of the aldermen laid it on pretty thick.
Jesus, Mary & Joseph were used against Rauner by Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa.
“A year ago Pope Francis reminded us that we believe Jesus was a refugee. You see it wasn’t that long ago, in the grand scheme of things, that a child fleeing violence sought refuge with his parents, Saint Joseph and the Blessed Virgin Mary in a foreign land.”
And Alderman Ed Burke was quoting the Statue of Liberty.
“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free.”
The aldermen may have affected some of their constituents, but foreign affairs were not.
