(RIVER GROVE) A person was struck and killed by a Metra train early Monday near west suburban River Grove, causing delays of more than an hour on the Milwaukee District/West Line during the morning commute.
Inbound train No. 2202, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 6:13 a.m., was stopped shortly before 5 a.m. after it struck the pedestrian near the River Grove station at Thatcher Avenue and Arnold Street, Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed a person was fatally struck, but did not immediately provide additional information.
All trains were halted in the area until shortly before 7 a.m., when authorities opened two tracks near River Grove, according to the transit agency. Trains are on the move with some delays because of the crash. Inbound train No. 2224 did not operate.
River Grove police declined to provide information about the crash.
