News Release from the Illinois Department of Transportation – Tuesday, January 26th, 2016
(CHICAGO) The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that temporary lane reductions will take place at the intersection of Harlem Avenue (Illinois 43) and 151st Street, in Orland Park, beginning, weather permitting, Wednesday, Jan. 27. The work is necessary to improve the intersection and modernize traffic signals.
The first stage of construction will take place on Harlem Avenue, adding a southbound right turn lane at 151st Street. Motorists can expect intermittent daytime lane closures on Harlem Avenue.
The second stage of construction will take place on 151st Street, adding a second eastbound left turn lane at Harlem Avenue. Traffic lanes on 151st Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
The overall improvements to the intersection will be completed, weather permitting, in Summer 2016.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through the area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signing in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
