(CHICAGO) In the continuing fight between Mayor Rahm Emanuel & the Chicago Teachers Union, the union claims the mayor is exaggerating something again.
CTU is complaining that a million dollars of the cuts Chicago Public Schools has been making lately is going to expand pre-kindergarten. And the CTU’s Matthew Luskin says the expansion is not to the additional 1,000 children the mayor claims, but he’s only converting 100 already-existing half-day slots into full-day slots.
“There is no real movement to expand early childhood to working families that need it across the city and we are sick and tired of dishonest claims of expansion that, in fact, are coming at the cost of our own children and undermining these demands to expand services,” Luskin said.
It wouldn’t be the first time Emanuel has been accused of exaggerating something, but City Hall insists streamlining the program is how it gets to a thousand.
