(CHICAGO) Another day, another deadlock in Springfield, this time over the stalled state aid for colleges and universities.
A new so-called “compromise” from the Democrats is being called three times worse by the Republicans.
So, once again, we have the kind of deadlock which produced this kind of attack on the Republicans earlier this week by State Sen. Kimberly Lightford (D-Maywood).
“I don’t even know why you come to the capitol. Why do you even show up,” Lightford questioned. “We should just redline your nose across the committee, on the floor, through everything because you’re the “no” caucus. You’re the caucus that don’t care about people that really need help to stay in their universities.”
Republicans say they’re not against higher education funding, it’s just that the Democrats have to come up with a way to pay for it without borrowing.
