(CHICAGO) Mayor Rahm Emanuel is talking about the three police superintendent candidates the police board has handed him.
The conventional wisdom is that Emanuel will choose a black outsider, meaning Cedric Alexander from suburban Atlanta. Here’s what the mayor is already willing to say about that.
“In the sense of building trust and cooperation, it’s something obviously you have to look at, but again, I want to tell you what my core … my north stars here are going to be,” Emanuel said. “What’s your understanding of community policing. How do you energize community policing so you both boost the morale of the police department [and] ensure that there is cooperation between the community and police.”
But in terms of helping the police, Emanuel also took off on judges and legislators for not doing enough to keep bad guys an guns off the street.
