(CHICAGO) The CTA will be adding extra service over the weekend for the Shamrock Shuffle and United Center events.
From 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, Blue and Orange Line trains will have more cars and Red Line trains will operate more frequently for the Shamrock Shuffle, according to a statement from the CTA. Brown Line trains will also have more cars from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
No. 19 CTA buses will depart from South Michigan and East Randolph about two hours before, and run for about one hour after, the following United Center events:
- Earth, Wind and Fire concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday;
- Chicago Bulls game at 7 p.m. Saturday;
- Chicago Blackhawks game at 11:30 a.m. Sunday;
- David Gilmour concert at 8 p.m. Monday;
- Chicago Blackhawks game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday;
- Iron Maiden concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday;
- Chicago Blackhawks game at 7:30 p.m. Thursday;
- and the David Gilmour concert at 8 p.m. Friday.
The No. 19 buses will run for about an hour after each event, picking riders up on the eastbound side of West Madison near Gate 3, the CTA said.
The CTA said the No. 50 bus is also a good option for customers going to the United Center from the north and south, making connections to the Orange, Pink, Blue and Brown Line trains. North and southbound buses will stop on South Damen at West Madison, and pickup customers here after the events as well.
The CTA also announced changes to the Green Line and platform closures on the Blue Line.
From 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday, the Green Line will run from Ashland/63rd and Cottage Grove to Laramie, instead of continuing to Harlem/Lake, because of construction work, the CTA said. Free shuttle buses will be available at the closed stations.
From 9 p.m. Tuesday to April 25, the eastern section of the Addison Blue Line platform will also be partially closed for construction, the CTA said.
Riders heading to O’Hare should take the Forest Park-bound train to the Belmont station and then transfer to an O’Hare-bound train, the CTA said. Customers who use the Addison Blue Line station are advised to take the Irving Park or Belmont stations. The No. 77 and No. 80 buses connect to these stations.
Construction on the two lines are part of the Green Line West Track Renewal project and the Your New Blue program, the CTA said.
