(BATAVIA) No one was injured when a grill fire caused a small explosion Sunday afternoon in west suburban Batavia.
Shortly after 3 p.m., firefighters were called for an explosion and a grill on fire in the 500 block of South Forest Avenue, according to a statement from the Batavia Fire Department.
When firefighters arrived, the natural gas grill and the deck were on fire and a neighbor was trying to extinguish the blaze with a garden hose, fire officials said.
A small propane torch that was kept under the grill caused the explosion, fire officials said. Firefighters were able to shut off the gas to the home and the blaze was brought under control within 10 minutes.
The deck was damaged, but the fire did not spread to the house, fire officials said. Residents were not home at the time of the blaze and no one was injured.
