(CHICAGO) At least 10 people have died and more than 100 injured in the United States, after vehicle airbags exploded sending pieces of metal and plastic flying into the air. The problem is with the inflator and the recall has just been expanded – becoming the largest in U.S. history.
The government says that close to 40-million Takata inflators are being added to the almost 29-million recalled previously.
Mark Rosekind with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration..says his family has a car with an inflator that has been recalled. “I fully understand the frustration and we are checking weekly to see when those parts are going to be available. Talk to your dealer, try to get a loaner, get that inflator replaced as soon as possible. Make sure you’re in touch with that dealer at least once a month so the pressure is on for them to see what they could do,” said Rosekind.
This recall affects vehicles made by almost a dozen automakers including GM, Ford, Honda and Toyota.
