(CHICAGO) Metra Union Pacific-West Line trains were halted Saturday morning as police investigated the death of a woman found unresponsive near the tracks on the West Side.
Police were called about a person down in the 4600 block of West Kinzie at 6:51 a.m., according to Chicago Police. Officers arrived to find the woman lying unresponsive on the ground about five or ten feet from the railroad tracks.
Metra reported that UP-W trains were halted in both directions between Oak Park and Kedzie because a pedestrian had been struck by a freight train near Kinzie and Kilbourn.
However, a police source said the woman found near the tracks showed no visible signs of trauma or injury. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and Area North detectives were conducting a noncriminal death investigation as of Saturday morning.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death but did not immediately release further details.
Train No. 502, which was scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 8:50 a.m., was allowed to continue into the city, but all other train traffic remained halted between the Oak Park and Kedzie stations Saturday morning, according to Metra.
