(CHICAGO) Illinois has confirmed its first human case of the West Nile virus fro the year. Normally human cases don’t stop popping up until late July or August. The first human case was reported in a teen from Central Illinois.
The Illinois Department of Public Heath warns that West Nile can be deadly. They continue to encourage people to use insect repellent containing DEET and to avoid being outdoors at dawn and dusk.
Last year there were 77 human cases of West Nile. Nine people died after being infected.
