(CHICAGO) A Chicago city council committee has recommended earned sick leave for most workers in Chicago.
The ordinance provides up to 40 hours a year of earned sick leave for most workers in the city.
During debate, restaurant owner and Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) supported the ordinance, but complained about yet another mandate on small businesses.
“People do get sick, you know what, companies get sick too,” Tunney said. “And I’m telling you we have got an ailing small business climate here in the city of Chicago.”
The ordinance has a super-majority of co-sponsors and will get final approval at next Wednesday’s city council meeting.
