(CHICAGO) There’s a big political story today at the Cook County Board.
After decades of debate, the County Board has voted to put a referendum on the November ballot asking you if the archaic Recorder of Deeds office should be merged into the Cook County Clerk’s office beginning in 2020.
Chief sponsor of the move is County Board member John Fritchey.
“I think a lot of elected officials still look at their offices as personal thiefdoms. That mentality is no longer tolerated by the public. So, the time is right for the voters, the time is right for the board, so let’s just say that it was the perfect storm for reform,” said Fritchey.
And the time was right because political patronage isn’t what it used to be.
