(CHICAGO) Chicago’s police superintendent says video he’s viewed of a fatal police shooting of an 18-year-old suspect last week suggests the officers may have violated department policy.
Eddie Johnson’s comments to reporters Sunday come after he relieved a third officer of police powers Saturday. Two other officers faced similar action Friday. Johnson declined to say what specific policy may have been violated.
Autopsy results showed Paul O’Neal died of a gunshot wound to the back.
The action against the officers within days and Johnson’s comments indicate police are moving more swiftly to scrutinize officer-involved shootings than in the past.
The release of video showing a police officer fatally shooting Laquan McDonald 16 times prompted protests last year. It led to the firing of then-police superintendent Garry McCarthy. Johnson eventually replaced him.
