(CHICAGO) Ron Sandack, the Downers Grove Republican state legislator who abruptly resigned in July, now says he was extorted after getting involved in “inappropriate online conversations.”
Sandack says in a statement he used poor judgement not once but twice wiring money to the Philipines after Facebook and Skype conversations with a woman.
He says he “was the target of an international crime ring focusing on high profile individuals, luring them to engage in inappropriate online conversations with the intent of extortion. I took their bait he says, and fell for it hook, line and sinker.” What he said in the conversations, he did not reveal.
Sandack is familiar with getting controlled. Here’s how he used to describe who’s in control in Springfield. “This is an impasse over who’s who in the zoo, who’s in control and the budget is just the blunt instrument being utilized to extract pain in that fight,” said Sandack.
This time the blunt instrument was extortion.
