(CHICAGO) New details in the story of the fired Chicago Police Detective who escaped punishment after shooting and killing a black woman on the west side in 2012. The Chicago Tribune reports that Dante Servin is seeking disability pay from the city, claiming his shooting of Rekia Boyd left him with post traumatic stress disorder.
In April of 2015 a Cook County judge cleared Servin of criminal charges on a legal technicality. Servin then resigned as the city was trying to fire him seven months later, around the time of intense public furor following the release of the video of another white officer shooting and killing LaQuan McDonald.
The Tribune says if Servin is successful, he could collect as much as 75 percent of his former $104,000 a year salary, until his pension kicks in.
