(CHICAGO) Governor Bruce Rauner is on the trip to the Vatican to see Chicago Archbishop Blase Cupich elevated to Cardinal. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is with the Governor.
Are Emanual and Rauner talking a little Springfield politics on this junket? Without a doubt. The mayor thinks he and the governor have a common economic growth interest in solving the Springfield standoff.
“Springfield’s uncertainty is what undermines the state of Illinois, of which I find Chicago located in. Springfield getting a budget, Springfield getting its financial overall house in order, would create certainty that would help up economically and grow. The undertainty is Springfield is the biggest drag on the economic well-being of not only the state but potentially Chicago,” said Mayor Emanuel.
Speaker Madigan does not agree and that’s why it’ll take more than Rahm-Rauner bonding to get a deal done.
