(CHICAGO) Former U.S. Congressman Aaron Schock is scheduled to go on trial, early in the new year, after pleading not guilty to misusing government and campaign money.
Schock appeared in federal court, in Springfield Monday, to be arraigned on a 24-count indictment which includes 9 counts of wire, as well as mail fraud and theft of government funds. A conviction on just one count of wire fraud carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence.
The Republican from Peoria was a rising star in the GOP before questions arose about his travel and real estate deals, as well as his Capitol Hill office renovation in the style of “Downton Abbey.”
Aaron Schock’s trial is scheduled to start on February 7th.
