(CHICAGO) The Illinois Department of Transportation is hoping drone’s can help the state keep tabs on the state’s road and highway infrastructure.
IDOT purchased two drones to explore new ways of inspecting bridges and roads. IDOT would also like to use the drones to help workers avoid getting too close to traffic because the drones have a hi-tech camera that is capable of live streaming.
Drones could also be used for analyzing traffic patterns and accident surveillance as well.
They are in the testing stage now. If all goes well, IDOT plans to buy several more.
