(CHICAGO) Bond has been set at $100,000 for a west suburban woman accused of stealing from a relative who suffered from dementia.
Prosecutors say Sharon Cermak of Villa Park started stealing from her elderly uncle in 2013. They say she used her power of attorney to withdraw money from his bank account, write checks to herself and others, and use his debit card until November 2015.
Authorities say some $250,000 was stolen.
Sharon Cermak’s uncle has since died. The Villa Park woman is now charged with a felony count of financial exploitation of a person over 80.
