(CHICAGO) If it felt like January was pretty mild, you’re right. Illinois State Climatologist Jim Angel says the average temperature during January was 31.4 degrees. That is five degrees above normal.
It was the 14th warmest January on record and there wasn’t much snow. “The statewide snowfall was well below normal. Most places got less than two inches of snow for the month,” said Angel.
Angel says, in general, eastern and northern Illinois were wet and western and southern Illinois were drier than normal.
