Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson revealed months ago that he would eventually need a new kidney. While many rank-and-file members of the CPD were willing to donate if they were a match, Johnson has decided that he will accept his son’s. “It’s humbling, you know, it’s not something I asked him to do. He said ‘Hey, Dad, you gave me life. I want to help prolong yours’,” Johnson told reporters. “If i could have went to a store and picked a son, I couldn’t have done a better job with this kid. He is everything good about me. He’s the best I have to offer.”
John Howell wonders why a parent should accept organ donation from their children. “Frankly, I think as a parent, I would be reticent to accept that from my young son knowing that I’d like to keep all his options open for his entire life,” Howell told listeners. “I’ll wait on the donor list.”
