(WASHINGTON, D.C.) Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Aviation Commissioner Ginger Evans, testified to a Senate sub-committee Thursday about the United Airlines fiasco. U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) also had a new complaint against the airlines.
The apology tour continued with Evans telling the senators she thinks dragging the doctor down the United aisle was “personally offensive,” but she still doesn’t know why her aviation cops did it.
“I honestly don’t know at this point why they…we certainly will enhance our training. It’s such an infrequent event.”
Meantime, Sen. Duckworth, a longtime United Mileage Plus member, complained to the airline industry lobbyist about accommodations for the disabled.
“Individuals with disabilities are people too and I have seen wounded warriors on flights …be manhandled off a flight. I have had to sit there and wait for my wheel chair to show up and it doesn’t show up.”
The Chicago Aviation Department has suspended four in the incident and said neither the Chicago Police Department nor airport security officers will go on aircraft to deal with customer service matters including overbooking situations.
