(WASHINGTON, DC) In Washington Thursday, the House passed what some call TrumpCare, a bill to replace ObamaCare. The debate was feisty, especially with some Illinois Democratic lawmakers taking the floor.
During debate, U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) cried out against TrumpCare, but Republican Michael Burgess of Texas immediately used ObamaCare’s experience in Illinois against her.
“The Republicans attempt to improve Trumpcare is like trying to douse a dumpster fire with gasoline,” Schakowsky said. “This bill is a disaster and anyone who votes for it does so at their extreme peril. The American people are watching and they will not forget.”
Burgess shot back, “I would point out that in the State of Illinois there were eight plans in 2015, there are 5 plans in 2017 with a 57-percent increase in premiums.”
But ObamaCare has put hundred of millions of dollars more into Cook County Hospital care.
The House bill now moves to the Senate where it faces a challenge from Democrats.
