Now that the House bill to repeal Obamacare is in Senator Mitch McConnell’s hands, many have wondered what exactly his strategy will be. Fox News’ chief congressional correspondent Mike Emanuel had been working his sources all weekend and joined Big John and Ray to discuss what he had learned. “The Senate Majority Leader does not appear to be in any rush,” Emanuel told WLS AM 890. “He’s obviously dealing with a wide range of opinions in his Republican conference.”
Emanuel pointed out that there will be key Republicans from a varying conservative spectrum that may cause infighting with the McConnnell’s party. “Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and Rand Paul with their own very specific ideas on healthcare,” Emanuel continued. “On the more Liberal end of the spectrum, you have Rob Portman from Ohio whose got concerns about Medicaid in terms of prescription drug abuse, getting people the treatment they need. With 52 Republicans in the senate, he cannot afford to lose many votes to get this through.”
There are 10 Senate Democrats who up for reelection in states that Trump carried in 2016. Emanuel speculates that some Democrats may break from their Party, in order to actually support the measure.
