(CHICAGO) U.S. auto sales are down for the fifth straight month in May. Auto Analysts had forecast a small increase for the month of May but sales were down for quite a few car makers.
General Motors, Fiat Chrysler, Hyundai and Toyota all reported decreases compared with a year ago. Ford, Honda, Nissan and Volkswagen said their sales were up, but not enough to offset the others.
Ford beat General Motors. That has happened only one other month in the last 15 years.
Ford Vice President Mark LaNeve says SUVs and trucks are still hot. “The F-series momentum story continues with sales and share up, transaction pricing up, and incentive spending down,” said LaNeve.
Automakers sold just over 1.5 million vehicles last month, down 0.9 percent.
