(CHICAGO) –– Mayor Rahm Emanuel has signed an executive order pledging that Chicago will do its part to help meet the Paris Climate Change Agreement since President Donald Trump won’t.
Emanuel says Chicago is already 40-percent toward it’s goals to reduce greenhouse gases. He says the executive order keeps that process moving forward.
“We have a little more than 50 million square feet of buildings being retrofitted for energy efficiency,” Emanuel said. “We have shut down the two coal plants at Fisk and Crawford. We’re extending our bike lanes and mass transit so there’s less cars on the road. And by 2025 all of the energy the city purchases will all be renewable energy.”
And the mayor says there’s more to come.
