(CHICAGO) Do you wonder why so many state highways are so poorly maintained?
Illinois is 45th among the 50 states when it comes to federal aid for roads. Here’s why according to Sen Dick Durbin: “The problem relates to the fact that we don’t have a state budget and consequently the state match to federal funds is not where it should be. We don’t have an aggressive state road program because we don’t have a state budget.”
The senator argues that roads may actually affect more people than the state universities and social programs that are being starved in the budget standoff.
