(BELLEVILLE,IL) — We are hearing from the wife of the gunman in shooting that left a top Republican congressman hospitalized and several others wounded.
The wife of the James Hodgkinson, the downstate Illinois man who opened fire during a congressional baseball team practice Wednesday, tells reporters outside of her Belleville home that she believed her husband went to Washington, D.C. because he wanted to work on tax policy.
“I just don’t know what to tell you people,” Hodgkinson said Thursday afternoon. “I had no idea this was going to happen and I don’t know what to say about it. I can’t wrap my head around it.”
Hodgkinson said repeatedly that she saw no signs her husband was planning violence.
