Kia has claimed the top spot in a survey of new vehicle quality for the second straight year with 72 problems reported per 100 vehicles.
Genesis, a luxury brand owned by Hyundai, was second in J.D. Power’s annual initial quality survey which takes into account the first 90-days of ownership. Porsche, Ford and Ram rounded out the top five.
The Ford brand earned its best-ever ranking in the report’s 31-year history. Bennie Fowler, Ford Group Vice President, tells WLS-AM what helped earn them that ranking was, “Fitness and quality of execution from design to manufacturing to our supply base and the people who service it.”
They also have a new infotainment system, replacing other systems that customers said they had trouble operating. “We want to also thank the men and women of the Ford Chicago Assembly Plant because the Explorer was one of our most improved vehicles, also, in this survey,” said Fowler.
The lowest ranking brands in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Survey were Fiat, Jaguar, Volvo, Mitsubishi and Land Rover.
