A convenience store operator outside of Seattle, WA, pleaded guilty earlier this year to shooting and killing a man he caught shoplifting at the store he owned with his family in March 2016.
Prosecutors said the store operator pulled a gun on the alleged shoplifter after he spotted him stealing items, then put it away when the shoplifter put up his hands and backed away.
According to a probable-cause affidavit, when the shoplifter broke free and ran toward the door the store operator shot the victim on the back. The store operator told the judge e was sorry for the murder and accepted responsibility.
Ironically the shooting came came a little more than a month after the store operator’s wife was shot and wounded during a shootout with a robber at the store. She suffered only minor injuries.
