(CHICAGO) The City of Chicago is now looking at birth control for rats as a way to curb the city’s burgeoning rat population.
The City Department of Streets and Sanitation is going to test a poison called Contrapest. It’s manufacturer says the idea behind the poison is to make rats infertile and unable to breed.
Chicago will also resume the use of dry ice to kill rats. The ice is placed in in rat burrows and then suffocates them.
A Streets and Sanitation spokeswoman says year to date, the city has received 20,846 rat complaints, down from 21,365 during the same period last year.
