(SPRINGFIELD) Governor Bruce Rauner is now taking a slightly more conciliatory approach in the school funding impasse.
Rauner now says he won’t use his amendatory veto powers on the Democrats bill on Monday IF between now and then Republicans and Democrats in the legislature can get together in good faith and negotiate an alternative. He doesn’t say if such an alternative could include the teachers pension millions he’s been calling a Chicago bailout.
Thursday he was laying it on pretty thick that Democrats should compromise for the sake of the children saying “It’s just so outrageous to use children as political leverage. Hurt them to drive a political agenda. That is wrong. That is so unfair. Our children deserve better.”
