(CHICAGO) Mayor Rahm Emanuel says he’s re-appointing his critic and former police reform task force co-chair, Lori Lightfoot, as Police Board President.
Not re-appointing Lori Lightfoot might make her a martyr who could run against him in 2019. Without taking any questions about it, he told city hall reporters at an impromptu q & a he is reappointing her.
“I did say yesterday in my meeting with Lori, there are things in the Justice Dept report about the Police Board, I wanted to make sure she was on task in making those changes,” Emanuel remarked, adding “I want to make sure our reports are made on time, are made public, are transparent with the public just as the Justice Department had seen.”
In June, Lightfoot said the mayor’s approach to police reform without a consent decree is fundamentally flaw and set up for failure.
