(CHICAGO) Illinois Democratic U.S. Senator Dick Durbin appeared on WLS Friday morning to pitch his proposal to give tax breaks to American companies.
Durbin told “The Big John and Ramblin’ Ray Show” that earlier this week he visited a factory in Marengo that makes forklifts, and says he was impressed at the fact that the UniCarrier Americas plant kept jobs in Illinois, instead of moving to another country.
The Senator says the government can help more companies do that, by providing tax breaks.
‘”The thing that we can do to encourage companies like this that pay a good wage, have good benefits, stay in America and hire our people, is to give them a tax break.”
Durbin referred to legislation he sponsored three years ago that did not pass, that would have rewarded companies for keeping jobs in America, and ended tax loopholes for companies that move to other countries.
”Our tax code gives a tax break to companies that move to Mexico. A tax break to deduct their moving expenses. Why in the world do we do that? Why not give the tax break to UniCarrier, that keeps the jobs in the United States? Good paying jobs, and treats their employees in a decent way. That would be a good way to reform the tax code and create American jobs.”
