(CHICAGO) Cook County commissioners have voted to repeal the very unpopular penny-per-ounce pop tax.
15 to 1 was the vote to repeal, a veto-proof majority.
Sean Morrison, the Orland Park Republican who led the fight to repeal summed it up, “I believe what we heard over the last 10 or 11 months is that our residents are fed up and they finally said enough. Tax fatigue has set in when we have bottle tax and sales tax and hotel tax and gas tax and bag tax, enough was enough.”
President Toni Preckwinkle issued a statement saying she’s disappointed but said ” it is up to the commissioners to choose our direction on revenue, and I respect their authority to do so.”
