(CHICAGO) One of the seven Democrats running for governor – Chicago Alderman Ameya Pawar – is dropping out. Why and what may be ahead for the alderman from Bill Cameron.
Pawar is a Bernie backer who says he’s throwing in the towel because he couldn’t raise enough money.
One of the leading candidates, Chris Kennedy, says Pawar will be missed, “He’s raised a whole series of questions about Gov Rauner’s leadership and not just Gov Rauner, but the notion that political leadership has been using wedge issues to divide communities among different economic classes, by race, by religion and by geography. No one has spoken more forcefully about the need to bind the community together as the alderman has, so we will miss his voice in this race.”
As for Pawar’s future, he has term-limited himself as an alderman but may seek to become the left’s candidate for mayor in 2019.
