(CHICAGO) Governor Bruce Rauner has won a battle in Springfield.
Rauner vetoed a bill to try close the wage gap between men and women and prohibit employers from asking applicants about their pay history.
Sen. Daniel Biss, one of the Democratic candidates for governor, asked the senate to override Rauner’s veto, “”What this bill does is that if you currently have a pay gap in your company, you’d better explain why.”
But Republican Karen McConnahay, one of the senate’s GOP leaders, argued the bill puts too expensive a burden on small businesses, noting “Sometimes the unintended consequences of a good idea isn’t really a good idea.”
When the roll was called Sen. McConnahay’s argument prevailed giving Rauner a rare win in Springfield.
