(CHICAGO) A vote on one of Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s key appointees has been delayed.
Under pressure to delay her confirmation, the city council public safety committee did delay until Monday a vote on former deputy mayor Andrea Zopp to be a Police Board member. She didn’t even show up for this hearing.
Aneel Chablani of the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights asked the alderman for an even longer delaym noting “We don’t question Miss Zopp’s credentials or her dedicated public service, but there are legitimate questions that can and should be asked about how the appointment of somebody who has just served as deputy mayor will further independence of the Chicago Police Board.”
Many observers say government moves to slowly. Here we have a complaint that Mayor Emanuel’s government is moving to quickly.
