(CHICAGO) Mayor Emanuel and City Clerk Anna Valencia kicked-off the city’s new municipal ID program called CityKey.
For ten bucks, the undocumented immigrants can now get an ID to give them access to a wide variety of city serves and events that would otherwise be denied.
Mayor Emanuel said it’s the right thing to do, “This municipal ID, the CityKey, will bring all the undocumented communities that are on the periphery, on the sideline, into our city. When we say welcome, we mean welcome.”
Not everybody’s for this. Alderman Tony Beale says it’s a waste of money, pointing out “It’s something that’s gonna cost $2 million that’s a glorified library card to get people in and out of different events. It’s a waste of time. We can find something else to do with that money.”
