(CHICAGO) Here’s the rundown on how the House members from Illinois voted on the sweeping tax reform bill.
Illinois Democrats all voted no, right in line with what Chicago Congressman Danny Davis argued in debate last month, “I know we’re again being sold the idea of what I call trickle down economics. Feed those at the top and crumbs will trickle down to all the rest of society, even tho study after study has shown that this does not work.”
Republicans all voted yes, right in line with what suburban Representative Peter Roskam argued in debate, “A lot discussion in the subtext of this about class envy and opportunity. Here’s what I know. It is the status quo that is serving the few. Mr Speaker, we’re proposing the economics of opportunity, not the economics of envy. The economics of buoyancy and of participation.”
And that was the winning argument.
