(CHICAGO) Cook County Assessor Joe Berrios is the target of yet another attack by the Chicago Tribune.
This time the Trib says Berrios has been dragging his feet on patronage reform.
Five years of federal oversight has not ended friends & family hiring and promotions in the party chairman’s operation.
Not really a surprise when you listen again to what Berrios told me five years ago, “There is no political patronage anymore. Let’s be honest about it. I could not have done what I did at the assessor’s office without the people I brought in.”
And today, the assessor’s office says it’s complied with everything the federal monitor has requested and if anything, it’s the monitor who has caused years of delays.
By the way, in five years, the Trib says county taxpayers have paid more than $3 million to attorneys on both sides of the issue.
