(CHICAGO) Visitation will be held today for the Chicago Police Commander who was killed during a struggle with a suspect, in the Loop, earlier this week.
Today’s visitation for Commander Paul Bauer will be held at Nativity of Our Lord Church on West 37th Street in Chicago from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. It is open to the public.
Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson, officers, and others packed a courtroom yesterday as bond was denied for suspect Shomari Legghette who faces first degree murder charges.
Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx says when Bauer decided to help tactical officers and encountered the suspect at the Thompson Center, a struggle ensued and the two fell down a stairwell.
“The defendant drew a gun and fired seven shots, at Commander Bauer. Commander Bauer suffered six separate gunshot wounds to his head, neck, torso, back, and wrist,” said Foxx.
Commander Bauer’s funeral is Saturday and he will be laid to rest at Holy Seplchre Cemetery in Alsip.
