(CHICAGO) One week ago, a Chicago Police Commander was shot to death while trying to help tactical officers capture a suspect on the run. The widow of Commander Paul Bauer has written a thank-you letter to the City of Chicago.
Erin Bauer says she and her daughters’ hearts are broken in a million pieces and forever changed.
She says her husband would have been terribly upset that he inconvenienced so many with parking restrictions and road closures for the funeral procession. “He never wanted to be in the spotlight,” said Bauer.
Erin Bauer say, from the darkened window of her car last weekend, she saw people of every color taking time out of their day, not only to pay respects to Paul, but to the entire Chicago Police Department.
“One man almost stole my faith in humanity, but the City of Chicago and the rest of the nation restored it, and I want to thank you for that,” said Bauer.
