(CHICAGO) In the sexual harassment scandal swirling around IL House Speaker Mike Madigan, two leading Democrats are arguing against the calls for Madigan step down as state party chairman.
Alderman and Democratic ward committeeman Pat O’Connor, Mayor Emanuel’s City Council floor leader, had an interesting argument against forcing Madigan out now, saying “It’d be like taking Eisenhower out as the troops were landing on Normandy. I mean we need just to make sure that we win this primary. Once the primary is over, then I think we can determine where we need to be as a party to take on the Republicans moving forward.”
And on the gubernatorial campaign trail, frontrunner JB Pritzker continued to back an independent investigation, but when asked if that meant he’s against Madigan stepping down now as party chairman or speaker, he said “I believe we need to have an investigation, but wherever that investigation leads, people need to be held responsible.”
At that point, a press aide to Pritzker ended the interview.
