(CHICAGO) — Students across Chicago and the suburbs plan to walk out of class Wednesday.
The walkouts are planned for 17 minutes to honor the 17 Parkland, Florida high school students who were gunned down in school last month. It is part of a nationwide walkout.
Last week, Emma Simpson, a Plainfield North student who helped organize her schools walkout, talked with John and Ray on WLS.
“We are there to send a message to either our state representatives or up and coming candidates,” Simpson said.
Some schools are accommodating the students while others will issue detentions.
Some 200 Catholic schools in Cook and Lake counties are participating but with peace building activities like prayer and discussions.
