(CHICAGO) — Apple Tuesday ventured to Lane Tech High School on the city’s northside where the tech company unveiled a new 9.7 inch iPad and offered reduced prices for students and educators.
The cheaper iPad, which will retail for $329 but $299 for students and teachers, signals a renewed emphasis on education by Apple, which has been losing out to Google and Microsoft. The iPad allows the use of a stylus.
Along with the reduced price, Apple says students and teachers will receive 200GB of free iCloud storage. The company is also rolling out a new app called Schoolwork that allows students to work on digital assignments and lets teachers digitally grade those papers.
According to school officials, Lane Tech received some upgrades for allowing Apple to use the school for the unveiling.
