(CHICAGO) For the first time in 25 years, they’ve snipped the ribbon on new gates at O’Hare and Mayor Rahm Emanuel is taking full political advantage of it.
Just about every day now, Rahm begs to be re-elected with pressers about the latest new thing he claims he achieved.
Today it was five new gates at O’Hare for American Airlines, step 1 in the $8.5B Ohare expansion.
Emanuel noted, “Both new runways, new terminals, new gates, new concessions.” And at this one, Rahm was once again rubbing shoulders with a corporate mogul.
American Airlines CEO Doug Parker was kidding the mayor about wondering a month ago if they’d be announcing five new gates, saying “I actually was confident a month ago we’d be here together because I knew you’d come to your senses! (laughter) As he always does!”
Also symbolic at this O’Hare presser was Ald. Ariel Raboyras standing next to the mayor. Running against the alderman is the daughter of Rahm’s ally Congressman Luis Gutierrez.
